NASA is inviting everyone to combine the crew of the space shuttle Atlantis for an "All-American Meal" Thursday afternoon.
"We thought it would be amusement to have a typical summer meal often enjoyed in our backyards with friends and household," said Michele Perchonok, a NASA food scientist and director of the shuttle food system.
While maximum of the food the astronauts will be dining will come in thermostabilized packets, Earthbound picnickers can put together their own meals based on NASA recipes, which are posted on the space agency's website.
The appetizer course as the orbital picnic will consist of crackers, brie and sausage. The entree traits barbecued fowl or meat bosom, Southwestern corn and roasted beans. Dessert namely apple pie.
To join apt the virtual experience, the crew's meal ambition be shown above NASA television, which can be base on many wire and satellite systems alternatively streamed online at NASA.gov/ntv.
Atlantis is docked at the International Space Station on its ultimate task, which is scheduled to conclude July 21.
